Name: Princess Zelda
Canon: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Age: 17
Appearance: Depends—do you want her traveling, performing official duties, praying, or in the dead of winter?
Canon Point:Post initial confrontation with Calamity Ganon and placing the Master Sword within the protection of the Deku Tree.

Background: The conflict between Hyrule and Calamity Ganon is recorded in legends passed down through history. 10,000 years prior, the ancient evil of Calamity Ganon was once more sealed away by a fabled Princess, a descendant of the Goddess Hylia, and her champion the Hero. Centuries later, the threat of Calamity Ganon looms again and, relying on the technology used in the fight 10,000 years prior, the Princess, the Hero, and the Champions that will fight alongside them are trying to prepare for the coming confrontation.

This is where the current intonation of Princess Zelda comes in, as she is the very princess that must take on Calamity Ganon with the Hero and the Champions. It is her destiny to access her hidden power to seal the darkness that is Ganon with the aid of the Hero, her appointed knight Link. However, she has been unable to access this fabled power and has, so far, feared herself a failure. For this reason, she has thought to put her skills as a scholar to use by studying the Guardians and the Divine Beasts piloted by the Champions with the hope of discovering something that could aid in their fight—or help her access her power.

The tale of her journey begins with Link being appointed her knight, much to her displeasure as his abilities with the Master Sword and acceptance of his role as Hero served as a continual reminder of her own failures as Princess of Hyrule. Following the ceremony that named Link her knight, the pair set out for Goron City to address needs related to one of the Divine Beasts. It is during this trip that she asks Link how proficient he is with the Master Sword and if he can hear the voice within the blade.

On their return from this trip, Zelda gave Link the slip to approach a Shrine to see how one of the ancient technologies, the Sheikah Slate, would react to it. It would seem, at this point, that giving Link the slip had become a habit of hers—as had approaching technologies with the Slate as part of her research. However, during this examination of the Shrine, Link finds her—much to her frustration and annoyance—and only serves to make their relationship more antagonistic and strained. This estrangement does eventually come to pass following events outside the Desert Oasis. Zelda is ambushed by members of the villainous Yiga Clan, only to be saved by the very Hero she had come to loathe. It is following this daring rescue that Zelda seems to begin to warm up to the Hero.

Despite the pair beginning to get along, there seemed to be no progress on the development of Zelda’s abilities as a Princess of Hyrule, a descendant of Hylia, and the one destined to seal away Calamity Ganon. It is during this time that Zelda makes another attempt to unlock her power by praying at the Spring of Power. She is still unable to hear the voices of the Spirit Realm. Her frustrations come to a head at this—she curses the powers of the Goddess, and in her frustration, she finally cries out to ask what is wrong with her, for her to be continually denied the powers she was supposed to inherit.

Following another failure, there is seemingly one option left—one final chance for Zelda to claim her birthright. Her destination was to be the Spring of Wisdom on Mount Lanaryu, a spring she is now able to access on the day of her seventeenth birthday. However, this once again does not reveal the powers to her, and to further compound on the direness of the situation, Calamity Ganon finally awakes. Despite her apparent inability to truly aid in the fight, Zelda insists on joining the others in the confrontation.

In what would come to be known as “The Great Calamity”, the King, Champions, everyone in both the castle and the castle town of Hyrule were killed. Link was initially able to provide an escape for both himself and Zelda, but the pair of them are eventually cornered outside Hateno Fort by a Guardian that had turned against them under Ganon’s influence. Link was, by this point, already severely wounded, and yet he tried to shield Zelda with his last remaining strength and his own life. Unwilling to lose yet another person she cared for, Zelda instead moves in front of him—and it is with this attempt at self-sacrifice that finally awakens the Light within Zelda, allowing her to push back the Guardians, forcing them to deactivate due to the strength of her newly awakened power.

However, Link still succumbs to his wounds and Zelda fears all is lost until she hears the voice within the Master Sword. This voice encourages her, telling her that Link can still be saved. She entrusts the task of delivering Link to the Shrine of Resurrection to members of the Sheikah Clan before setting off on her own to first hide the Master Sword with the Deku Tree within the Lost Woods, and then to confront Calamity Ganon on her own.

Personality: At the core of Zelda’s character are her kind heart and benevolent nature. She cares deeply about Hyrule and its people, which is a driving factor to her determination to prove her ability as a princess and wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom (though it should be noted the Triforce itself is never directly referenced in BotW it is Established Canon for the series as a whole). She wants to ensure the safety of her countrymen and of those she holds close and dear. For this reason, she often puts too much pressure on herself to try and reach the expectations placed on her by others and the weight of her supposed destiny as a descendant of Hylia. She often pushes herself to the point of exhaustion, physical and emotional, to try and meet said expectations—much to the worry of her guard and Champions.

As the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom, Zelda is extremely wise—in the bookish sense. She is a scholar and is well versed in the study of technologies, horticulture, and the general history of Hyrule. She pours hours into her research and theories, and spends time examining the effects of adding certain…unusual ingredients to recipes in order to create elixirs. However, this intelligence does not necessarily extend to the emotional realm. She fails to see how her connection to people, and the care she places with them, can be a key to unlocking her powers. Furthermore, she allows her own self-doubt to cloud her judgment of Link—putting her at odds with the Hero for the initial part of their journey. She even misreads his silence as a sign that he dislikes her, rather than seeing it as his attempt at being the “dutiful knight”. She writes about her experiences with the Hero in her diary logs, and it is clear that she isn’t sure how to handle him, or really how to read into his actions toward her and others in the course of their “adventures”.

Unlike previous incarnations of the Princess, Breath of the Wild’s Zelda is not immediately able to access her powers, which creates a new layer to her character. She knows that she should be able to access the power to seal the darkness, that it’s her birthright, but she sees herself as a failure for being unable to wield it with ease. This creates a certain level of anxiety within her, where she feels pressure to gain these abilities and only sees continual failure when the powers do not manifest. She is unhappy with her role, feeling that she is not suited to be a savior but that it is something she must do only because it was what she has been told her entire life. The pressure is more than just her father’s demands that she do all she can to access this power—she knows the fate of Hyrule depends on it. If she fails, Ganon will win and Hyrule will fall. For being seventeen, this is an incredible amount of responsibility to hold, and it is no wonder that she continually shows doubt as she considers her place within the Legend of Hyrule.

However, even with this self-doubt, Zelda does show a level of confidence once her powers do manifest. She comes into her own as a Princess, easily giving a command to Sheikah warriors as they come to her and Link’s aide on a battlefield. She takes on responsibility for the Master Sword once Link is interred in the Shrine of Resurrection, ultimately being the one to make the choice to hide it with the Deku Tree within the Lost Woods. Her ultimate show of confidence, however, is the decision that follows—one she makes before even leaving the Deku Tree—and that is the decision to face Calamity Ganon on her own, to do what she can to protect Hyrule from the destruction it would cause until Link recovers and can aid her in sealing the evil entity away once more. This decision leads her to seal herself away with the beast for the 100 years it takes for Link to reawaken, continually locked in a fight with the entity without a moment’s rest for a century.

Weaknesses/Temptations:
Zelda’s weakness is always in her lack of confidence. Her powers have only just awakened, after years of nothing. She doubts her connection to the goddess, to the Triforce, to this power she is meant to have. While she is surer in her decisions at her moment of coming to Hell, it wouldn’t take much for that to falter when confronted with all that came from her inability to form that connect sooner.

In turn, she would be easily tempted by anything that may suggest help maintaining that power, with being able to turn back all that has happened to save those most important to her. It won’t matter if it’s a lie or not, the temptation of being able to save lives and defeat the Calamity would be hard to ignore for her.

Additionally, Zelda is inherently curious, studious, and scientifically inclined. She likely could be tempted to try something for the sake of understanding and study. Make it seem interesting enough, something worth time and experimentation, and you might have a princess on your hands.

Sins:
Dereliction of Duty
Inefficacy
Pride
Envy
(minor) Expressions of Wrath
Parental disrespect/defiance

Powers/Abilities:
Telepathy—This ability has been shown as a link to well Link—the Hero. She can convey warnings, messages, and general guidance. She would likely be able to make this connection with any iteration of The Hero or other versions of herself (with player permission).

Powers of Light—This ability manifests in several ways, the most notable being the powers to bind evil (chiefly Ganon) and in the creation and use of Light Arrows via the Bow of Light. As shadow/darkness binding would be limited to Ganon, this ability would most likely manifest in the ability to cleanse dark energy (with player permission) and to imbue arrows with the power of Light (as seen in the final battle against Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild.

Items:
 One set of traveling clothes
 A handful of the Silent Princess Flower

--subject seems to have no unique properties...[The video comes into focus mid-way through, features a young blonde-haired woman seated in the middle of the floor, furiously taking notes.

She sighs after a moment, moving to pick up something from her side—a select set of candies
]

These are readily available at several establishments here, if I’m not mistaken. I was told they have several affects, some adverse to the user…But they do appear rather normal on first glance.

[She frowns, poking several candies and watching them roll off across the floor.]
No one was particularly forthcoming with what I might expect if I were to ingest one, and I was hoping giving them a better look would perhaps provide a hint, should any prove familiar or if they had some obvious manner of tampering, and yet…nothing. So I must ask: Do any of you have experience with such things, and would you be willing to answer some questions?

I would greatly appreciate any leads you might be able to provide.
